Themes are just a bait. But if you want to reel in the line, you need solid content to back it up.

@Jan: Depends on what you mean by a "marketing theme" (marketing blogs use a wide variety of different themes, with vastly different styles), but you should take a look at WordPress Theme Review, which lists a much larger number of themes based on search engine factors.

Problogger.net’s theme with the highlighted posts at the top is great. Would you happen to know some good seo-optimized themes that are similar or could be easily adapted to that. I tried to modify a theme in that way and while it did increase my page views, I ended up with the same decription for all my pages in the SERPS and my traffick which had picked up slumped!!! Is there a way aruond that? Hope to hear from you and thanks in advance.

This is really great insight. I’m about to start a blog and found a template I like. At the home page it puts the blog title and description in the window title bar, and at a post page it puts the article name and blog title but not the description. Is there a way I can improve this myself, or is this good enough as it is? I know html. Also, not sure what you mean by “uses unique page titles”. Lastly, for one test post the url ends with “….com/blog/?p=4″ Is there something I should do to improve this for SEO, as I heard the question mark is a problem. Is there a plugin that fixes urls for SEO? Thanks thanks thanks!!!
