If you’re not familiar with the term “web hosting”, you’re probably wondering what it means and what you need to do about it.
To begin to understand web hosting, it’s helpful to know that a web page is a computer file, kind of like a Word document but with different content. When we build you a website, it’s a collection of files.
Just like your regular computer files, if your web pages remain on your computer, there’s no way for the rest of the world to see them; you’re the only one with access to your computer.
In order to let other people view those web pages, you need to put them on a special computer that is intentionally available for the whole world to see. That special computer is called a server, and the company that rents you space on the server is the web host—they’re “hosting” your files.
Starting with a web host
Findable Blogs offers hosting as convenience so that we can help get you set up and iron out any issues that might come up. However, we’re also happy to work with other hosts if you need specialized features or are already working with a host.
You can expect to pay $10-25 each month for a basic hosting service. Once you purchase a web hosting subscription, the host will supply you with login information to a control panel, where you can manage your e-mail and FTP accounts.
